Why They’re About to Pop: Originally known as Revolution Theory, this rock four-piece got their start in 1997 when its members met in college. With dreams of getting a recording deal, the band moved to New York City where, in effect, their wishes came true. Rev Theory released their debut full-length, ‘Truth is Currency,’ in 2005, and toured relentlessly with the likes of Fall Out Boy and Evanescence. Now, with their sophomore effort in tow, the band is already tearing it up with their single, ‘Hell Yeah,’ which was selected as the theme song for ‘WWE One Night Stand,’ as well as a game time jam for the Detroit Red Wings. Catch Rev Theory on tour with Puddle of Mudd from now through September 1.

Three Questions with singer Rich Luzzi:

What inspired the songs on your record?

It’s been almost three years since we put our first record out. Since then we have had so many experiences, so all the songs are a culmination of all our experiences over this time. We have toured and partied our a–es off in North America, and had a chance to see Europe. We have been through relationships, lost loved ones and sacrificed everything to try and make this thing happen. Each song on ‘Light it Up’ is a reflection on everything during this time.

What’s your favorite song on the record?

I am really proud of every song on ‘Light it Up.’ However, my favorite song on the record has to be ‘Broken Bones.’ I wrote this song for my mom and it holds a special place in my heart. I feel her everytime I hear or play it.

What did you think life as a musician would be like when you first started out and how does it compare to what it’s really like for you now?

After a while you realize that being in a band is a job and it takes a lot of sacrifice, but it’s a job that you love to do and it’s totally worth it. When you’re a kid, you think it’s all hotels, lear jets and models, but you realize that it takes a lot to get to that point. We arent even close. I mean, when you’re in a van, you want a bus, and when you have a bus, you want a bus with double slideouts. The reality is that it’s a true grind and that it never happens overnight, but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything in the world.
