International News: Dresden finds a new sidekick

Since confirming their split in 2008, America’s premier progressive trance duo Gabriel & Dresden have both been quietly working away on respective projects. Josh Gabriel packed up his studio and moved to Amsterdam, where he completed his debut solo album Eight, which was released on his own label Different Places last year. His one-time partner in crime Dave Dresden has now spoken publicly about his new project, teaming up with Mikael Johnston under the name Mephisto Odyssey.

Speaking with Beatportal, Dresden remarked he’s taking it easy since his split with Gabriel, “going at a gingerly pace and has been in no rush to release music.” However he’s now feeling ready to make his return, having remixed UK pop starlet Lily Allen with his new studio partner. “Of all the collaborations that I’ve done since the split, my work with Mikael is the first that has actually bore fruit,” he told Beatportal.

In the interview Dresden also goes into detail on why it’s taken him a little while to regain his studio confidence, revealing Gabriel was the self-confessed tech junkie’, while he took on the role of skillful DJ’. “I worked very closely with one person for seven years so I’m taking my time, getting used to working with other people again. I’m also learning how to use Logic.”
