Concert Review: The Allman Brothers Band At Nissan Pavillion, Bristow, VA, 8/14/07

The Allman Brothers Band gave an absolutely mind-blowing performance on this fine Tuesday evening at Northern Virginia's Nissan Pavilion. The weather was picture perfect, the lawn was open for business, and the crowd was just the right size.

There was the standard mix of colorful characters (not just the tie-dyed variety) – one guy in the beer line became my own personal stand-up comedian and kept me entertained for the entire set break between Ratdog and the Allman Brothers. He was hilarious - I can see an HBO special in this guy's future.

The band took the stage at 9:00pm, and the music didn’t stop for two glorious hours.

While many recording artists – secular and religious—leave their normal musical style on record store shelves when setting out to record a Christmas album, Amy Grant stays true to herself and her listeners. Since Amy swept up Grammy and Dove Awards this year her fans have eagerly awaited her next release. Although a season LP, A Christmas Album (Myrrh) offers completely new material for Amy.. From the instrumentation to the backup vocals, Brown Bannister’s production on A Christmas Album is tight. Amy’s vocals are lively and full of “umph.” Side one opens with the countrified ballad “Tennessee Christmas,” written by Amy and husband Gary Chapman.

Music Review: Flower Power: The Music of the Love Generation

"I can’t remember if I cried
When I read about his widowed bride,
But something touched me deep inside
The day the music died." – Don McLean, "American Pie"

If nothing else rang loud and clear as I listened to the ten discs contained in the Flower Power box set, it was that the music of the sixties and seventies was simply different. The melodies, the harmonies, and the messages were delivered in a way you won't hear when you turn the radio on these days. Don't worry, I'm not going to opine about how corporate owned radio is destroying the music industry.

Yes, the fest was started six years ago and named for the (mostly female) screaming fans who greeted their idols. But after six years ScreamFest, like its audience, has grown up.“We were definitely going after a different market this time,” said the multi-platinum and two-time Grammy Award winning T.I. about his decision to headline the fest. “Once that was concurred upon, we moved forward. It is the ScreamFest tour, not the little kid ScreamFest tour.”If the upcoming shows are anything like the recent Washington, D.C.
