The Annual UMiss Blues Symposium Approaches

pThe Annual UMiss Blues Symposiumnbsp;is the ldquo;must attendrdquo; event for all serious blues fans, particularly those who appreciate the early blues musicians, aka country blues, or pre-war blues. These guys, mostly from the early 1900s on up through World War II, are the bedrock upon which blues is based. People such as Charley Patton, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Ma Rainey, Johnnie Shines, Tommy Johnson, and of course the most famous of all, Robert Johnson./p pAlthough Robert Johnson is certainly the man best known as bringing country blues to the masses in the 20th and 21st centuries, yoursquo;re doing yourself a great disservice if you donrsquo;t expand and catch some of the other great musicians from this era.

His one-time partner in crime Dave Dresden has now spoken publicly about his new project, teaming up with Mikael Johnston under the name Mephisto Odyssey. Speaking with Beatportal, Dresden remarked he’s taking it easy since his split with Gabriel, “going at a gingerly pace and has been in no rush to release music.” However he’s now feeling ready to make his return, having remixed UK pop starlet Lily Allen with his new studio partner.

International News: MIA to play Grammys on her due date image
Proving her undying commitment to her art – or perhaps not wanting to turn down the biggest publicity opportunity of her career? – M.I.A. has confirmed she’ll perform at the American music industry’s night of nights this weekend, the Grammy Awards, on Sunday February 8th. What makes that so special? M.I.A. is literally due to give birth to her first child on the very same day.
